A new sketch...

Yep, I have been doing a little bit more drawing during the week. I have no idea why I chose to draw this particular image...it's not normally my sort of thing but it just suddenly sprang to mind so I just went with it.

dress 1 ss

I sketched the image directly onto my card. The card is a standard 6" x 6" so the drawing is quite large as it almost fills the space. It took only minutes to draw and at this stage I'm quite pleased with the result.

dress 2 ss

However, the next stage is to add ink. I know if I mess up I will have to start all over again, not an idea I relish even if it was quick to draw as I know I will never get it the same again.

So I go over some of the pencil lines in black ink...already I can see I have added far too much. I'm not happy with the shading, then I'm not happy with the bow...maybe I shouldn't have added it all...then I think the bodice is too short...oh well it's all too late to change it now!

The card was drawn and painted over a period of 4 days...I sketched in the evening, and took photos in the morning before work. I then added my ink the next evening and took more photos the next morning and so on. It was the only way to get the photos taken in stages. It just so happened in between photo shoots I checked out the Wednesday One Layer Challenge over at Simplicity, and Play Date Cafe challenge, and this week's challenges for both is black and white, with a spot of colour.

Perfect!! It was just too irrisistable...I just added a dark pink gem to my black and white image for my spot of colour!

dress 4 ss

However, as I've now added too much black ink I decide that I'm going to add colour...this is going to be a bit of a goth dress! So I paint it in a pinky purple colour and add loads of Glamour Dust.

dress 7 ss

Despite my earlier misgivings I am now quite pleased with the overall result.

dress 6 ss

And of course it is a card so I add a single line sentiment to finish it off..

dress 8 ss

It's not a perfect drawing and it's not perfectly coloured either. I'm such a perfectionist that I get very frustrated when things don't go quite right. But actually I did enjoy drawing this little dress and of course that's what it's all about. And if you enjoy it too then, for me, it's the icing on the cake!!

It looks to me, Sarita, as if this could be Stamp No. 2. I think every step of your creation was stunning but yes (if I absolutely HAD to be critical - which I really don't need to be and which, if I were - would be picky beyond belief) I can see that your pencil sketch had a more diaphanous feel to it than your first ink sketch. However your Goth dress is absolutely perfect. Truly stunning! And although I didn't leave a comment on your last posting, that new Stamp No. 1 of yours makes a superb background as well as a feature! You are soooooooo talented and I LOVE your blog!!! Warmest of wishes, Lesley

I so wish I could draw!!! Your card - in all it's stages of evolution - is lovely. I love the simplicity of the plain dress with purple gem. But the finished card with the pink and glamour dust is just wonderful and I have a small daughter who does ballet and is a goth girl who would simply love it.

Sarita, this is, well, I can't quite think of words for it. Your process and the thoughts behind it are sooooo inspiring. While I adore the Challenge version of the card because that's how I am, the final version is beyond perfect. You pushed it to perfection. I'm blown away. And honored you would include this in the OLW challenge. You are an amazing artist.

This is just beautiful, I love the softness of it, your colouring is beautiful, Love the added gem, it is the perfect finshing touch.
