Variation on a theme...

Another card along the lines of my aperture card of a couple of weeks ago...

This was made using my new Papertray stamps. Now I have always loved Papertray, but have been put off because of their postage...all their international orders are posted tracked and insured using USPS mail service which is pretty expensive.

However, nothing could have prepared me for the aggrevation when they reached this end. I knew there would be a customs charge as I ordered quite a lot...don't have have a problem with that and I was expecting it...but what I wasn't prepared for was for no-one to tell me where my order was when it reached the UK! My e-mail from USPS showed they had tried to deliver it to me, which I thought was strange as I didn't think they would try to deliver it without the customs charge being paid.

To cut a very long story short, after a week and through my own research, I traced my order online to a Parcelforce depot near to me (I wondered why when I tried to trace a UK contact for USPS on the internet I kept getting hits for Parcelforce, now I know why!). I just can't believe no-one had bothered to let me know that it was with them. Had I not traced it myself, I know now that they charge for storage after a certain period...it could have been ages before I realised and could have clocked up a huge bill. To add insult to injury there was additional postage to pay to Parcelforce! Even now I wonder how long this would have gone on for had I not contacted them!

Maybe you all know about this, but in the event that you find yourself in the same position as me and don't know what happens if there is a customs charge I thought I would let you know so you don't go through the aggro that I did this week.

Anyway, after the headache of getting my order, I am really really pleased with my new stamps and know I will use them a lot. BTW only the leaves and sentiment are Papertray, the central square design is Elusive images and the butterflies are by Rubber Stampede.

There are more Papertray stamps I would like, but I think I will leave it a while to recover both financially and emotionally lol!

Hi Sarita - what a pantomime! I knew it was expensive to order them - I was lucky in that I got a place in a share last year. I had been tempted to do my own, but after this tale I think I can find enough stamps for now! anyway, beautiful card really stunning.

Oh no!! What a frustrating experience!! I know that several people overseas do joint orders for PTI because of the expensive shipping....some people have connected at their message board for that. I imagine I would have been cringing at that cost (I don't like to spend $$ on shipping in general, let alone something that high).

That's good that you are at least enjoying them! I do enjoy their stamps myself. And it looks like I see a couple sets here that I do not have....but, are on my long wish list. I love your aperature cards, circle or square!! Love the layers here and how graphic the whole piece is.

Hope you recover from the exasperation & hit to your wallet. Maybe playing some more will help the aggravation wear off! :> Hope the rest of your weekend goes well! :>

Beautiful card Sarita, the wait (and aggravation!) was worth it. I have to admit that, that's what has put me off ordering any stamps from them. I think I'll ponder on it a bit more .... Sue C x

Blimey Sarita, doesn't it make you seethe when you have to deal with inefficiency. I would have been livid, which is why I hardly ever order from anyone who charges p & p but then I am fortunate only living 10 mins away from the Craft Barn and about 20 from The Glitter Pot.
Anyway, I digress, your card is superb and the new stamps are lovely, glad you are pleased with them after all that aggro.

I know exactly how you feel Sarita, same thing happened to me and it cost an extra £15 on top of p&p. Parcelforce did write to me though. I`ve had stuff from other companies in USA and never had a problem. Makes you appreciate the stamps more though lol. Anyway gorgeous card, well worth the wait and expense.

I've had exactly the same experience with shipping charges, custom charges & Parcelforce last year...it was a nightmare but your card has more than made up for the agony that you went through to get the stamps.

Once again, it's a beautiful card, absolutely stunning!
Have a wonderful weekend...

What a horribly frustrating experience! I'd have been tearing my hair out. No, actually I'd have been wanting to tear THEIR hair out! Don't know if it was worth it or not, but that is an awfully pretty card!

Gorgeous card, Sarita.... I love the stamps you have used... and the monochrome-ish look!
Talk about being expensive... I paid a bomb on shipping stuff from the US to India (I got my Cuttlebug just last week a month and many dollars later)! And yes, the Customs and having to locate the parcel was another story. Finally ended up paying more on shipping than on the products :-( Very frustrating!!

Oh dear, it is very offputting for ordering abroad but at least you have been able to produce a beautifully classy card :o)
(I am awaiting punches from Canada so I am keeping everything crossed now)

ugh whan an absolute unnecessary hassle. you'd think they could make it easier in this technological age of our. I've been put off for the same reason. they really need a UK supplier!!! anyway - the wait for the card was well worth it cos it's beautiful. another lovely clean lines unassumingly simple looking card.

Oh what a saga, I shouldn't really sound surprised because everyone I know has a problem when waiting for a delivery from PTI but so glad you have them know and you can enjoy:) I do love papertrey but too am put off by the cost of postage and customs. Loving your card though, it's beautiful:)

I love the look of PTI stamps, too, but the shipping charges are ridiculous. I have ordered from the US quite a bit in the past, and have never encountered such stupidly high charges. If PTI didn't insist on doing things the way they do, you (and others) wouldn't have bad experience you've had, and they'd have a much larger market for their products here. I emailed them about it a while ago, but they're attitude left a great deal to be desired.

Sorry for the whinge, but they wound me up. Oh well. There are other suppliers with similar products who deserve my business more, IMO.

For some reason, I couldn't see your photos :o( I think my computer must be low on memory, or something. Knowing your designs as I do, I'm sure they are stunning! I'll come back after I've re-booted! ;o)

Hugs,
Chris xx

I can imagine your frustration... But this card was certainly worth it! I bet all these hardships have made you enjoy using the PTI stuff you've bought even more :)

Hi Sarita. Been loving looking through your creations over the past few weeks. I think Papertrey Ink are missing a trick with the ridiculous shipping cos they're putting people off. I think the whole additional customs charge thing is a pain too, I got caught out with that when I ordered some stuff off Ebay from the US, now I try and get the item sent marked as a gift but not everyone will do that. I'm still debating whether to order from PTI or not as I really love their "On my couch" sets, they're so different. Also want to get the one with "everyday buttons" cos I think they're so unique and some of the sentiments are gorgeous! Might have to wait til hubbie is in the US on business!! x
